Ice skating in Montreal

December 18, 2002
You can get a Montrealer to enjoy hot summers but you can't get snow and ice
out of a Montrealer. So how about pulling out your skates and acting like a
kid today.
You can usually find local skating rinks in Montreal parks, near schools and churches. Although some may have various time frames reserved for ice hockey there will also be lots of public time. And these are definitely safer than local lakes where the ice may be too thin.
Some of the best rinks ? La Fontaine Park, Bonsecours Basin in the Old-Port, Beaver Lake at the foot of Mount Royal, Place Emilie-Gamelin at Berri-UQAM metro station, and the Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue canal in the West Island. Is this the middle of summer or thaw out season ? Not to worry, you can still hit the ice downtown at the Atrium, an indoor skating rink located at 1000 Lagauchetière Street West.
